A Penny For Your Thoughts

It’s been about 6 weeks since we lost Jesse. I was worried Penny would get confused and depressed without her daily companion of the past 7 years.

On the contrary, the piggie has adjusted very well. I think they both knew Jesse’s time was coming well before us humans did. She seemed a bit sad for a day, but that was it.

Penny has embraced her new role as the head/only dog in the house. She no longer has to defer to Jesse and is more territorial and inquisitive during our walks. At home, I’ve caught her watching the door now and then. Jesse was a natural protector and often slept against the door, ready to bark warnings at those who would dare to come too close. Penny never cared before, but she seems to have taken over some of Jesse’s habits now that Jess is gone. I don’t mind—it’s nice to see Jesse’s influence on Penny.
