Afternoon

It’s about 2:30 in the afternoon.  I’m taking a break from work, trying to stay awake.  Didn’t get much sleep last night.  The people upstairs were having some sort of party - one that didn’t start until around 11 PM!  Worst of all, the floors in our building are polished concrete.  While they are practical and look great, they’re surprisingly thin as paper and carry sound like nothing else.  Every single high-heeled step resonated like a bowling ball being dropped in an empty auditorium.  Boom bippity boom boom BOOM.  It sounded like it was a stomp-around-in-circles party. Completely and unbelievably grating!

I would fall asleep briefly, only to be awaken by the loud STOMP-STOMP-STOMP of someone running arcoss the room, or, at one point, by someone dribbling a f’ing basketball!  Have they no decency?!

They used to do this all the time in the past,  and even though our talks and notes to them fell on ignorant ears, the parties just stopped one day.  Last night, after about a year, the insanity came back.  Now maybe it was a special occasion (who throws a party on a Tuesday night?), but whatever it was, we decided to be “good” neighbors and oblige them this one event.  What goes around comes around - they’ll know that soon enough.

But for now, I must grab some coffee and get back to work.  I’m looking forward to going home and collapsing into bed.
