Do you prefer writing on paper or a keyboard?

Aluminum Apple Keyboard

I definitely prefer writing on a keyboard. There's something very satisfying about the tap-tap-tap sound of fast typing and the feel of firm, responsive keys beneath my fingers.

There are other more practical reasons as to why I prefer writing on a keyboard: there's the built-in spell-check and white-out (backspace) and the ease at which whatever I just wrote can be shared.

Also, when writing on paper, I'm quite OCD about my handwriting. If the slant of my words or the heights, widths, or roundness of my letters aren't consistent and somehow look "off" to me, I have to start over. It takes me much longer to write on paper than it does to write on a keyboard. Handwriting is definitely an aged and dying art.

  • I prefer paper still, but only slightly, and mainly because I think I can still write faster than I can type. Writing also has the added benefit of changing font size on the fly as well as no special keystrokes for symbols if I want a whatcha-call-it, BOOM, there it is ;). But not having Cmnd-Z (or Crtl-Z) blows!

  • Definitely paper. I am a pen geek and when I have a nice pen (fountain, of course) and some nice paper (Rhodia) then I don't care whether I spell something right or wrong; it's the process of having your thoughts flow from your hand to and through the ink.
