Hi Mellie, I am facing the same problem with you. I have been on birth control for 1 1/2 year and after 3 months I stopped it, I got severe hair loss (more than 200/day). The hair loss problem last for 2 months till now and do not have any symptom to improve. I am freaking out too. I don't know when it will stop? What's your progress? Did your hair grow back? What brand of pill you took? Is it Yasmine(Yaz)? I hope to hear from you.

Queenie

Thanks so much for you post. Unfortunately, I have been suffering from androgen alopecia for seven years. I have been taking birth control pills for about 2 years. My OB/GYN prescribed Loestrin FE 24 (which has the highest level of androgen) about 6 months ago because Yaz was causing me to get severe headaches. While I was taking Loestrin FE 24, I couldn't figure out why so much of my hair was falling out in the shower and with brushings (I may have androgen alopecia but previously suffer from minimal hair loss from showering/brushing). I finally put two and two together (5 months later) and realized the birth control was causing the additional hair loss which has cause my hair to severerly thin. I have to say I was very upset that my doctor prescribed this medication without sharing this information with me. My scalp is now visible from the front, back, top, left and right of my head. Basically the entire scalp. It is sooo embarassing. I was always okay with my genetic hair loss and knew that later on in life, my hair loss would be more severe but I didn't think it would be in my very early 30s! I currently use Joan Rivers "Great Hair Day" powder to "camouflauge" my shiny scalp but I don't know how much longer I will be able to do so. It has only been a month since I stopped taking my birth control and I'm having less and less hair loss in the shower which is great but I know the "dred shed" is coming and it scares me to death! I barely have any hair on my head now! I have just begun taking Nioxin Recharging Hair Multi-Vitamins and applying Emu Oil to my hair in hopes to avoid the "dred shed" altogether or lessen the effects of it. I hope re-growth is an option for me considering that I already suffer from androgen alopecia. If anyone was or is in the same situation as me, I would love to hear your story.

Some medications are capable of worsening your hair loss. But I heard there is a pill that is out in the market that promises hair growth! I don't know if this one works. But try to search for it.

This blog was amazing! I was only on the pill (YAZ) 2 months and 2 months after stopping the pill Telogen Effluvium set in. I was shedding TONS of hair for 6 months and then slowly it started to taper off but didn't go back to normal until the 9-10 month mark. It's been 14 months since I stopped the pill and I've been shedding normal amounts for the last 2 months. I'm also seeing a lot of re growth but my hair still feels and looks very thin. I'm hoping with time, my hair will go back to how it used to be before I touched that evil pill.

Yeah you are right. But what happened to you is really traumatic, if that happened to me, I really don't think I can stand it. Good for you!
