Who gets sick on New Year’s Eve?

So who gets sick on New Year’s Eve? Apparently, I do. I woke up with a sore throat, always an ominous sign, and it only got worse throughout the day. I tried everything I had on hand: ginger tea with lemon and honey, Airborne, fish oil, a multivitamin, orange juice, but come 10:00 PM NYE, I was congested and fatigued.

We were gonna stay in on, but the thought of staying in on NYE rubs me the wrong way so we took a short 10 minute walk to a favorite restaurant.  I thought a hot, spicy Thai soup would soothe my sore throat and open up my sinuses.  Boy, was I wrong!  The spicy heat of the soup only served to irritate my already aching esophagus.  We toasted 2010 at the restaurant with complimentary champagne, and then we hurried home so I could crawl in bed.  The next day was spent completely in bed.  I got up once to slurp down a small bowl of soup (I knew I had to eat something) and promptly went back into bed.

I’m pretty sure it was a cold. I was heavily congested, yet my nose was runny and drippy at the same time. I hate not being able to breathe through my nose because my mouth and throat get dry and sore. My body was achy and tired, and although I don’t think I had an actual fever, my head would feel so hot sometimes while my body was cold and covered in goosebumps.  This lasted through New Year’s Day and the next day, but I’m finally starting to feel better. The sore throat is gone and my body is not achy. I’m still a little bit tired, which is to be expected since I hardly ate in the past few days. I also have a little bit of congestion, but I’m well enough to get out of bed, walk the dogs, and eat. Eating is important! I’ve also neglected to drink enough water. All I wanted to do the past couple days was sleep.  Way a way to start 2010 huh!

I’m now feeling well enough to tackle the new year. Let’s see how this goes. :-)

Happy New Year everybody!

  • Happy New Year to you as well! I used to get sick on New Years (Cambodian and American Calendar). For me I find that breaking out a sweat by exercising help speed up my recovering. Also a full body steam is extremely helpful for me because it get rids of excess liquids in my body. I do this at home with things around the house like a hot pot (just boil water and add some essential oils) sometime to wrap around the body and a comforter to put over my head. I usually do this in the kitchen floor with a towel laid down. 20-30 minutes and you are good to go. Not to mention your skin will look so healthy and glow-y. For OTC I like to take mucinex (?) Hope you feel better soon.
  • Merry new year!
