Bronchitis
My last real post was about how I got sick on New Year’s Eve with a bad cold. When I wrote that entry, it was a couple days later and I was optimistic that I was on the way up. Boy was I wrong.
My cold lasted about 4 days and towards the end there was a bit of congestion. Then the coughing started. It was constant coughing. Long after any body aches or sinus problems were gone, long after the sneezing and running nose, I was still coughing! Everything else was fine; I didn’t feel sick at all yet I couldn’t stop coughing. It was especially worse when I get up and then later on at night. Sometimes I would cough so hard that my abs got sore. I nearly vomited once.
I thought it was just the end of the cold, just one final symptom tapering off, though after nearly a week and a half, I realize it had to be more than that. A friend suggested maybe I had bronchitis.
Brochitis?! It’s a word I’ve heard plenty of times before but not something I was all too familiar about. He said that my symptoms sound like bronchitis and that it was pretty common to catch along with a cold. I have never heard this so off to Wikipedia I went. After a lot of reading, it seems that yes, I did get a bronchitis infection when my body was weakened with the common cold. I also found out that bronchitis usually goes away on its own but that the coughing can last for up to 3 weeks!
It’s a bit after 2 weeks now and my coughing is almost gone. I still cough a little when I wake up and I’ll have a small coughing fit now and then, but it’s nothing compared to how it use to be. However, for the past couple days, sometimes when I cough I feel a weird snap in the middle of my right rib cage. It feels like an elastic band snapping, and I could almost swear that I can hear it. However, I don’t feel any pain or discomfort and it happens about 60% of the time I cough. This mean that it can’t be something actually “snapping” if it’s happening over and over. I have no idea what it is and couldn’t find anything online about it. Maybe it’s all in my head?
Alright, time to get some sleep. I’m trying to get on a regular schedule again.
