New Music Discoveries
I’ve been discovering a lot of new music lately thanks to Pandora. Well, new to me. Some of these songs are a few years old. Besides Lady Gaga (obviously), I’ve never heard of these artists before.
Some background:
- “Hurricane Jane” by Black Kids (American) - 2008, Rolling Stone called them one of ten “Artists to Watch” for in 2008; their songs have been featured on the soundtrack for the movies Fame and Jennifer’s Body as well as the popular soccer video game Pro Evolution Soccer 2010
- “Too Young” by Phoenix (French) - 1999, featured in Shallow Hal and Lost in Translation
- “Little Bit” by Lykke Li (Swedish) - 2008, has performed with Kanye West and covered a Kings of Leon song by their request; had a song featured in the movie Sorority Row and wrote a song for the soundtrack of Twilight’s New Moon
- “L.E.S. Artistes” by Santigold (American) - 2008, Rolling Stone placed “L.E.S. Artistes” at #2 on “Singles of the Year” and Pitchfork Media ranked it #4 on “The 100 Best Tracks of 2008″
- “Monster” by Lady Gaga (American) - 2009, I just listened to The Fame Monster and love most of the songs on it, especially this one
- “Magic” by LadyHawke (New Zealander) - 2009, used in an episode of The Vampire Diaries
