When Jesse was younger, she loved pulling the stuffing out of her toys. She would tear a hole in whatever it was and then just pull out the stuffing bit by bit. It was funny seeing her take out a mouthful of stuffing only to spit it out and do it all over again. What goes through her mind when she does that? I never will understand the point of it all; I just know it’s a lot of fun for her!
Penny is 7 going on 8 but still acts like a puppy. Here’s a video of her “playing” with one of her Christmas toys.
I wanted to have some fun with the video I posted earlier of Penny and Jesse. Because of the poor quality and how fast the camera was moving at times, I knew it would make the video better if I added some notes to it such as speech or thought bubbles. YouTube has this capability, a feature they call video annotations. However, I couldn’t get it to work. It would seem like it’s working, but I always got an error that said: “Unable to reach the server. Try to reload this page in a few minutes.” It was especially frustrating because sometimes it wouldn’t show up until you’ve already added some notes and then WHAM all you work was lost.
I don’t know if something broke on YouTube’s end or if it’s just a connection issue because there’s too many people trying to do the same thing at the same time.
So, after trying for 2 nights, I decided to see if I there was someone else who had similar features. I found a site called TubePopper.com. The name is probably inspired by VH1’s old pop-up videos. I started using it but the interface had some lag and it wasn’t easy to move things around or modify things you’ve already added. A friend suggested I tried Viddler, thinking it had that feature, but it doesn’t.
Next, I tried Veeple which I found via a Google search. It seems more targeted towards commercial or corporate applications, but it’s currently free (they say it won’t be coming March) so I decided to try it out. Signup was easy and uploading was also a breeze. The interface was much easier to use than TubePopper and YouTube and I especially liked how there was a separate view just for the “spots” you added so you can just jump to and edit them directly. Adding captions and notes to videos is a resource-heavy process, so I understand that these applications won’t be super responsive, even still, I was impressed by Veeple.
I added some quick notes to the video. If I have more time later, I’ll try to jazz it up a bit with fonts and background colors:
The dogs usually get walked twice a day, if not more often. They go in the morning, and then again right after work.
Penny is usually the one that whines for the morning walk. Actually, she doesn’t really want to walk; she just wants to pee. Jesse is content sleeping until whenever someone is up and ready to take her, but Penny will start whining and groaning around 8 a.m. if not earlier. If no one gets up, she’ll jump on the bed, step half way over your chest, and will plop 65 lbs of furry muscle down upon you. It works.
When I come in after work, they both get excited to see me, Jesse especially. In her mind, me walking in the door = walk time. Jesse loves going for walks. Unlike Penny, Jesse doesn’t want to go outside just to poop and pee. Jesse loves exploring the neighborhood, sniffing out who’s been around, and marking her territority. If we let her, she’ll probably stay out for hours. Penny on the other hand is eager to come back home as soon as she goes, and she’ll often go right away in a big puddle instead of squirting it here and there like Jesse.
When Jesse was younger, I taught her to fetch her leash on command. It was surprisingly easy to teach and she learned it in only two sessions. Early on I regretted teaching her because she wouldn’t wait for the command and would bring me her leash all the time simply because she wanted to go out. She has since learned (for the most part).
I tried to teach Penny too but she’s too dumb. Well, it’s also because it’s not a big motivational factor for her. I’m sure if it was something like “go fetch your treat jar” she’d be all over it.
Anyway, what this is leading to is a video I took tonight. It was on my cell phone, so the quality is mediocre, but you get the idea. You can see how excited Jesse is about going for the walk. She bolts over to get her leash and then insists that I take it and put it on her. She got impatient a few times because I didn’t do it right away. I was preoccupied with trying to get Penny excited about the walk, but she was only excited by Jesse’s excitement and at one time got confused and went after a tennis ball. At the 0:19 mark she gets smacked hard in the head by Jesse’s furiously wagging tail.
The video ends abruptly when Jesse can’t take it anymore and pounces on me with her leash in her mouth.
The [mis]Adventures of Vuthy is a clever name for a blog that is usually filled with anything but. (Cleverness, not names; that sentence didn't quite work now did it?) About me. Feeds:Entries | Comments
